Taylor Acheives 1200 Club Runs

 In CWD Articles

Last Sunday’s run at Jack Brabham Park saw a milestone reached before we started out on our laps of the sports ground. Club President Gary Williams presented Gary Taylor with his Certificate for achieving 1200 Club Runs. Gary has been a member of the Runners Club since 1978 when there was only one run a week with a few members over different distances to there now being two runs a week with sometimes up to 100 runners or walkers. He has covered some many thousands of kilometres in that time in both training and club runs over some of Orange’s best running tracks in all types of weather conditions as well. Congratulations Gary on a great achievement.

Sundays run was a choice of one to four laps of Jack Brabham Park up to a distance of 7kms. 63 runners and walkers took off in very hot and humid conditions to try and complete their individual targets in the quickest possible time. The winner on the day was one of the clubs consistent walkers in Kim Roweth who a couple of weeks ago also won the mid week handicap run / walk at Elephant Park. With Kim’s times quickly starting to come down it won’t be long before the handicapper gets to her.
Our next Sunday run will be at Gosling Creek with a choice of distance from 2.3km to 9.6km with a 9am start.

Wednesday’s Handicap Run over the 1km course at Elephant Park saw 77 runners and walkers attempt to set new times over the 3km distance. Some of the participants were trying it for the first time with a few of them being entire families. Everyone seemed to enjoy it with many of the children swapping their running or walking stories at the end. The winner on the day was Shannon Syme who completed the 3kms in a time of 14.39, well done.
Personal Bests were achieved by the ever consistent Kay Davis with a 12 sec PB (looks like she is after the Most Improved again this year) and Daryl Roweth with a 3sec PB.

Could all members who compete in Wednesdays Handicap runs please try and start off at your allocated handicap time which is given to you by the Time Keeper before you start or advise them that you will be starting from zero etc. This will make it easier for our club handicapper who has been having a very hard time of late trying to get correct times for everyone and weekly winners.

With the Colour City Running Festival now only approximately 6 weeks away it is now time for everyone to start organising prizes for the Barrel Draw and also the Individual Age Groups for the 10km and Half Marathon. If anyone can help out with prizes please see Maree Moss at either Sunday or Wednesday Club Runs to get an age group etc. Remember the Barrel Draw Prizes are for anybody who enters any of the three distances on the day. One of the prizes on offer so far is 12 months Membership valued at $700 at Fitness Perfection. So you have to be in it to win it.

It is good to see all the training being done by members for the different distances during the week and with larger numbers turning up for the early Saturday morning runs from Elephant Park. Remember if you want to run it starts at 6-30am.
