CWD 26th October 2019
Last Sunday saw 58 runners members enjoy a different club run at Elephant Park with a relay event which included teams of 2 runners drawn from a hat. The banter from the draw, continued during the run especially in the changeover zone after each lap, to cheering the last runners home which created a relaxed atmosphere of encouragement, with the odd sledge.
On the serious side there was a number of very quick teams drawn out, with the Team of Mitch Williamson (8:49) and Michael Kennard (11:17) running a very speedy 20:07 for the 6 laps, to be the fastest team. In a tight tussle for second spot, Leanne Corcoran (10:47) and Anthony Daintith (10:51) ran a total of 21:39 to edge out the team of George Hogg (13:02) and Jack Bilton (8:55) 21:58.
After the handicaps were added to the times, the handicap winners were Scott Bebbington (11:55) and Michael Cooper (11:12) – handicap time 1:00:42, followed by the team of Audrey Schonknect (14:59) and Brian Penrose (17:51) – 1:04:53 and the team of George Hogg and Jack Bilton – 1:06:53.
Also on Sunday a number of runners travelled to the Mountains to tackle the Kedumba Half Marathon and 10km races. In the Half Marathon Ian Spurway 2:10:42, Alison Broughton 2:30:54, Alison Spurway 2:32:13, Bec Davis 2:48:16, Pam Fullgrabe 3:08:42, Martin Ryan 3:28:48 and Renai McArdle 1:38:03 (11km DNF).
Lauren Beels 1:32:25 completed the 10km race.
On Wednesday at Elephant Park 88 runners members enjoyed the warmer running conditions with a number of Personal Bests recorded including Tadeusz Schonknecht 29s, Bradley Hopping 2m31s, Jacinta Ditchfield 4m11s, Rowena Hopping 36s, Kiera Ditchfield 23s and Audrey Schonknecht 2m15s.
Fastest 3 laps were recorded by:
Male – Mitch Williamson 10:03, James West 11:44 and Anthony Daintith 11:53.
Female – Carissa Hickey 12:06, Tina Kiho 12:33 and Lily Craig 13:03.
Overall handicap winner was Daniel Roth who ran a strong time of 13:20 for his 3 laps.
The runner recognised for his achievement this week was Brad Tyack with 25 runs.
The Sunday Club run is at Stagecoach Road starting at 9am with a range of distances from 2kms to 12kms. This run is very popular with 2 person teams drawn out on the morning. Handicaps are taken into account and each runner will run alternate laps with their teammate until both have completed 3 laps. Please arrive a little earlier so teams can be organised.
Next Wednesday will see the second edition of this season’s Junior Spring Racing Carnival, so it would be great to see our young stars test themselves against the clock and their peers.
A big event not to be missed for club members is the Orange Running Festival 2020 Launch on Friday November 1 at 5:30pm at the Gosling Creek Reserve. The official launch of the 2020 Orange Running Festival will include the running of the new 2km Festival course as an official ORC run. Please wear either your ORC t-shirt or singlet or a previous running festival t-shirt.
