City to Surf vs Elephant Park

 In CWD Articles

Last Sunday members from the Orange Runners’ Club had a choice of running in Sydney’s City to Surf or here at Elephant Park. Around 30 people went to the City to Surf, with last minute preparations including an early night to bed for most of us. Of course there are always a few people who get excited pre-race, with Brian Penrose, James Hennessy and Tricia Keogh spending the night out socialising. An hour before the race it rained, but stopped 30 minutes before the start and did not rain again. This set the scene for a lovely day to soak up the atmosphere and celebrate our achievement. At the end everybody gathered at the ‘O’ flag and talked about ‘The Run’. Most of us celebrated by socialising and having morning tea at Bondi Beach, with Richard Eggleston going one step further by smoking a cigar!

On a wet Wednesday afternoon at Elephant Park we had a group start. Surprisingly under the poor running conditions personal best times were recorded by Al Merrifield (6 seconds) and Jack Daintith (12 seconds). Out of 35 people, Michelle Whiteley was the handicap winner and Mitch Williamson ran the quickest time over the 3k distance (9.26).

Just a reminder that at 5pm on Sat. 3rd Sept. there will be a number of seminars at the Hotel Canobolas for Orange Runners’ Club members. Speakers include Dr. Gareth Thomas (sports injury management), Paul Davidson (exercising) and Jackie Jasprizza (nutrition). The cost is $10 for adults and free entry for children. To help with catering purposes, please pay Frank Ostini before the night.

There is no club run this Sunday due to the Mudgee Running Festival. Good luck to all who participate. Our next club run is on Wednesday, 4.45pm, at Elephant Park (3k).
