Last Sunday’s ORC club run was held on the damp track of the overflowing Lake Canobolas precinct. The idealic surroundings even attracted the one and only John Moss back from dreary old North Coast beaches like Port Macquarie to our beautiful Orange beach for a run.

With anything from 1 to 4 laps of the 2.5km course available, 39 starters enjoyed a morning run, or walk, around the lake. The leading runners over the various distances were:

2.5km – female – Justine Tarleton 21:16.

Male – Michael Sharp 14:27, Trevor Jones 16:36, Gary Taylor 23:53.

5km – female – Michelle Whiteley 32:28, Claire Gates 33:56, Judy Tarleton 37:02.

Male – Jack Daintith 20:16, Hugh Daintith 23:55, Richard Hogg 29:11.

7.5km – female – Kinisha Roweth 37:30, Ursula Wilson 47:37.

Male – Iain McLean 31:51, Logan Whiteley 34:56, Mike Cooper 40:46.

10km – female – Ayako Kusui 51:57, Jane Fairgrieve 1:06:53, Kim Jarvis 1:06:54.

Male – Connor Whiteley 44:53, Brad Simmons 49:02, Daryl Roweth 49:32.

At Elephant Park on Wednesday night again with a starting window from 4pm – 5pm as 59 starters took on their laps, while Michael and his band of helpers monitored the timing system. There were 3 PB’s recorded with Joel Broadfoot 10s, Logan Whiteley 15s and Lyn O’Mara 7s pushing past their previous best times. In a very close top 3 younger members Rikky Bangert 9:54, Jack Daintith 10:20 and Logan Whiteley 10:22 were the fastest guys while Lily Craig 13:06, was the quickest of the girls with Alicia Anlezark 13:18 and Pip Farquharson 14:27 filling the placings not too far behind Lily.

Also on Wednesday Trevor Jones racked up 50 runs while the better half of the Moss family, Carol clocked up her 400th run.

This Sundays run at Bargwanna Road is in memory of club member Wayne Stewart who sadly passed away earlier this year – Bargwanna Road was Wayne’s favourite club run.  Wayne amassed 589 club runs, with his first run on the 6 February 1980 at Wade Park.  He then had a break from the Club for some years until he and Karen returned to the club on a regular basis in 2005 and he ran with the club until February this year.  Wayne was a Publicity Officer for a number of years and used his signwriting skills to assist the Club with club signs and signs for the Running Festival.  Wayne was always willing to help the club out in any way he could.

We have organised Mervs Coffee van to be at Bargwanna Road on Sunday morning.

We strongly encourage members to essentially “arrive, run and go home” – minimise socialising.

There will be a suspension of race briefs/announcements/presentations at the moment – this will be done via email and Facebook.

The Annual General Meeting is on this Thursday 23 July @ 7pm – the venue Kenna Hall.

The current committee encourages all members new and old, to get involved in the club. There are many different roles in the club and the annual Running Festival it  organises.

Membership fees are due and can be paid on register now please check out the website, facebook and or watch your emails for more information on all club activities and news.

Happy Running.
