Article by Kinisha Roweth
Orange Runners Club members have been very successful at the NSW Duathlon Championships in Penrith recently. A huge congratulations to Judy Tarleton (65-69 yrs), Brian Sharp(70-74 yrs) and Jessica Richards (30-34 yrs) who are State Champions. Also taking their place on the podium to collect their silver and bronze medals were Kinisha Roweth (15-19 yrs), Laura Auberson (20-24 yrs), Bridgitte Burge (20-24 yrs), Alison Dermody (35-39 yrs), Estelle Dean (40-44 yrs), Janette Martin (40-44) and Julie Middleton (50-54). Well done to Frank Ostini, Sue Dean, Simon Lun, Matt Dean, Dan Benton, Kim Dale, Claire Ward, Daniella Burgio, Jared Sullivan, Jack Bilton and Jacob Evans who also completed the duelling course at Penrith.
On Sunday Orange Runners Club met at Bargwanna Road for the weekly run 80 odd members running the various distances with a few quick times recorded. Running the 3km course Connor Whiteley (12.02) set the fastest time only 2 seconds quicker than Jack Daintith, while relatively new member, Glenn Prestwidge was third home. Leading the girls home was Emily Pell (15:48) finishing just ahead of Kerrie Lindsay and Elizabeth Simpson. The overall winner also came from the 3km race with Sally Kitto, somehow outsprinting young daughter, Josephine.
The 5km race saw the tightest of tussles, with only 13 seconds between 1st and 3rd in the males and 32 seconds between the top 3 in the ladies. Jackson Boucher (24:27) got the better of Wayne Stewart and Jim Rich, while Karen Neal (24:54) saw off the challenge of Katherine Lindsay and Louise Lloyd.
The top 3 performers in the men’s 10km run, put a bit of space on a quality chase pack as Brad Simmons (42:21), Mark Chapman (42:51) and David Ross (43:45) ran at the head of the 18 strong field.
Alice Munro (49:00) continued her strong recent form as she finished clear of Kim Jarvis and Amanda Gregor.
Also last Sunday John West (55-64yrs) won the 15km NSW Long Walk Championships at Glendenning, congratulations John bettering his 2013 time by 5 minutes.
Wednesday saw us use the short course at Elephant Park. With 115 runners completing their circle work runners managed to socialize with lots of passing runners. Mark Chapman manage to skim the mud and run away with the fastest male time of 12mins 6 sec and Ella Lamrock did not get bogged and was the fast female home in 13mins 1 sec. Congratulations to handicap winner Amanda Gregor who must have had her wellingtons on as she glided over the mud.
