CWD : 25th August 2018
It was an elite group of 29 who ventured to the Botanic Gardens on Sunday in what was confirmed as feeling like -8.8C weather (thanks Renai for the detailed weather report).
In the 1.6km Josephine Kitto* Michael Sharp and John Hannan took out the 1 lap honours while in the 3.2km Carissa Hickey beat home Lynn O’Mara and Glenys Rosser. Nice to see Alistair Merrifield back with us on a Sunday, grabbing the 1st place for 2 laps from the ever consistent Gary Taylor and Brian Penrose. Looks like park running might be paying off for some of these 3.2kers.
*on 2 wheels and therefore technically not a run but awarded points for dedication and efforts on the hills.
The 4.8km saw Amber Rich, Ella Lamrock and we think it was Judy Tarleton in third but couldn’t be quite sure from all the headwear that made it hard to confirm. We don’t blame her, that wind was mighty icy on the face. Michael Duncan, Lachlan Duncan and David Craig took out the males while it was all males in the 6.4km. Well done Joel Broadfoot, Noah Lamrock and Michael O’Mara on top 3 placings.
The photogenic Kimmy Jarvis took out the 9.6km from Renai McArdle while Brad Simmons cruised around the course in an easy first place from Edward MacLean and Peter Brown who just nudged out Joel Kitto and Barnyard Benton.
From the photos it looks like the smarter members who travelled to the Mudgee Running Festival enjoyed warmer weather. Some fantastic results at this ORC favoured event. Around 40 members tackled the 5km, 20km, half and full marathon, amazing representation for our club. Congratulations to Tim Murphy on completing the marathon in 3.18.13. A large contingent in the tough half marathon were led home by Iain McLean, Anthony Daintith and Ursula Wilson. I think Coop was spotted in there somewhere (I heard he ran out to Mudgee and marked the course first) but am not sure of an official placing. In the 10km Sam Collins, Hugh Daintith and Daryl Roweth were the top 3 for ORC while Kinisha Roweth, Luisa Sims and Alicia Anlezark brought it home for the ladies.
Great podium placings in the fast 5km. Congratulations Nathan Sutherland, Lachlan Ross and Dave Ross, Nicole Williamson, Liz Simpson and Alicia Ross.
Wednesday’s winner was new member Stacey Neville with an impressive 13.25. The tussle for top placing continued with Rikky Bangert upsetting Joel Broadfoot (PB) and AD (PB). Well done Rikky. The Ross family domination continued with Alicia beating home Liz Simpson by 2 seconds with Stacey Neville third. Not sure if the younger Ross’ have managed to retrieve their footy from Elephant Park, it might belong to the magpies now.
Good luck to those heading to the Dubbo Stampede this weekend, see you for dinner Saturday night before we tackle the zoo. Details on the FB page. For the rest of us its hills at Kinross Lane.
