No Watch Day

 In CWD Articles

Running without a watch is usually associated with a leisurely jog. However this was not the case last Sunday when the Orange Runners’ Club met at Bargwanna Road on a very humid day. Each member had to predict their time prior to running a chosen distance of either 3k, 5k or 10k. The person who runs closest to their predicted time wins. Congratulations to Amber Rich, who, out of 38 people, was only 2 seconds from guessing her time. She estimated running 21.45 for 5k and ended up running 21.47

Overall results at Bargwanna Road 3k Men: 1st Basil Baldwin (16.33), 2nd Watinee Kaskangam (23.04), 3rd Harry Townsend (23.34); 3k Women: 1st Alison Spurway (18.26), 2nd (Kittikorn Kaskangam (23.05), 3rd Denise Quinlan (27.51). 5k Men: 1st Brett Rosser (22.37), 2nd Jim Rich (23.11), 3rd Ian Spurway (24.43); 5k Women: 1st Amber Rich (21.47), 2nd Kinisha Roweth (26.20), 3rd Sue Dean (26.22). 10k Men: 1st Tom Gleeson (40.47), 2nd Peter Mueller (50.30), 3rd Brian Sharp (54.54), 10k Women: Melissa Watson was the only competitor in 44.06, a time that beat most of the men!

Despite the threat of rain all day on Wednesday, Elephant Park seemed to be covered by an umbrella. Emily Pell made the most of the conditions and recorded a personal best time over the 3k run by 14 seconds. Despite this good result Tanya Connolly was the handicap winner out of 73 runners.

Last weekend a number of runners went up to Dubbo for the New Year Athletics Carnival. All of the participants did extremely well, with the stand out performer being Judy Tarleton. She must have been very hungry for gold! It was a clean sweep for her in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m and 4 x 100m relay. The icing on the cake came when she set new race records at this carnival, for her age group, in all of the events. Judy must have had a slow trip back to Orange with all of that extra weight.
Other impressive age group results include Aiden Whiteley winning gold in the 3,000m. Connor Whiteley gold in 1,500m, along with silver in 800m and bronze in 400m, 200m and 4 x 100m relay. Logan Whiteley gold in the 300m. Noah Whiteley gold in the 700m, setting a new race record. Brandon Connolly gold in the 1,500 and 800m. Kyle Connolly gold in the 100m and 200m. Monique Connolly silver in the Handicapped Invitational 110m and silver in the 100m.

Also Mitch and Carrie Williamson travelled to Sydney on the weekend to race at Homebush. Over 1,500m Mitch won in 4 mins and 9 secs and Carrie came 4th in the ladies division in 6.00 minutes.

Just a reminder that entries are now being taken for the Orange Colour City Fun Run, which is on Sunday 6th March. The easiest way to enter is to log on to our web site at www.orangerunners.com.au and click on the link ‘Running Festival Link’.

We meet at Sir Jack Brabham Park at 9am this Sunday (choice of 3.5k or 7k) and next Wednesday at Elephant Park for 3k (at 5pm).
