Orange Runners’ Club double up at the Pinnacle

 In CWD Articles

Last Sunday a number of runners from the Orange Runners’ Club did a double run of The Pinnacle course to simulate the distance/topography that they will face at the City to Surf next Sunday. The only difference being there will be no mud or rocks on the way to Bondi Beach! The keen runners were Frank and Kyle Ostini, Brian Penrose, Brett Sammut, Tony Syme and Kate O’Brien. Jess Richards and Dan Benton also did the double, but they kept on going and going……………and finally stopped at 30k. Jess is training for a half-ironwomen and Dan an ironman competition later this year.

Results for The Pinnacle 3k Men: 1st Tony Fitzpatrick (13.49), 2nd Mitch Williamson (13.57), 3rd David Craig (16.23); 3k Women: 1st Amber Rich (13.03), 2nd Nicole Williamson (13.56), 3rd Frehiwot Ward (14.40). 6.6k Men: 1st Rod Draper (24.17), 2nd Tom Gleeson (25.03), 3rd Neil Williams (26.48); 6.6k Women: 1st Laura Auberson (31.51), 2nd Rhianna Fitzpatrick (34.24), 3rd Cassie Bland (34.28). Handicap winner out of the 94 runners was Besu Ward.

94 people also ran at Elephant Park on Wednesday. Under favourable running conditions many people did personal best times. These include our pb regular Matt Dean (5 secs), Oliver Hopkins (6 secs), Richard Eggleston (13 secs), Lily Craig (33 secs) and Abby Dean (59 secs). Bryce Ostini was the handicap winner and Rod Draper ran the quickest time over the 3k course (9.25).

Congratulations to Nathan Sutherland who came 1st in the Outback 11k Festival Run at Ayers Rock last Sunday. He broke the race record in a time of 40 minutes. Nathan is in the Robert de Castella indigenous youth development running program, which aims to have an indigenous runner represent Australia in the Olympic Marathon in 2016. 6 male and 4 female runners will be selected from a squad of 20 to compete in the New York Marathon this November. Nathan looks like a sure starter in the Big Apple!

Congratulations also to Mitchell Strike and Steve Wensley. They were presented with certificates for running with the Club 200 and 600 times, respectively.

John and Carrol Moss are now back in Orange. They were on an extended holiday over in the United Kingdom and Europe and John did some work as a safety advisor at a mine in Ireland. We look forward to welcoming them back this Sunday at Lake Canobolas!

Just a reminder that at 5pm on Sat. 3rd Sept. there will be a number of seminars at the Hotel Canobolas for Orange Runners’ Club members. Speakers include Dr. Gareth Thomas (sports injury management), Paul Davidson (exercising) and Jackie Jasprizza (nutrition). The cost is $10 for adults and free entry for children.

We run at Lake Canobolas this Sunday at 10am (3k/6k) and Elephant Park on Wednesday at 4.45pm (3k).

Tom Gleeson.
