Busy times at the Lake

 In CWD Articles

It was a mass of busy bees at Lake Canobolas on Sunday morning as we shared the track with the Triathlon Club, who were actually doing a duathlon and no one could blame them for missing out the swimming leg of the event.   Orange Runners Club were pleased to see our friends John and Carol Moss back from their 18 month sojourn of Europe and Great Britain .  Both are looking very well and ready to get back into training with the club.   One thing for sure it will be more noisy with Mossy back.

President Frank presented Christine Aseguinolaza with her 500 club run certificate so congratulations Christine on your achievement.  Also, a certificate was presented to Dan Benton for 100 runs.  Dan is our website co-ordinator.  74 Runners attended the lake and the handicap winner was Brandon Connolly.  Brandon completed the 5.5 km course in the time of 22.16.  I have noticed Stephen Blackwood is running very well just now and seems to improve each week.  Stephen attends all our runs and is also a member of Fitness Perfection Gym and it is easy to see all his exercising is paying off with the quicker times he has been achieving.  Well done Stephen.

Sunday run results:-  2.75 km (male)  1st Nathan Sutherland – 9:56 , 2nd Kyle Ostini 10:43, John Sutherland 13.05,  (female) Alice Bower- 14:09, 2nd Lily Craig 14:10, 3rd Laura lie Francis 14:24.  5.5 km (male) 1st Rod Draper – 19:24 , 2nd Mitch Williamson 19:27, 3rd Tom Gleeson 20:25 (female) Lauren Kerwick – 23:03 , Karen Neal 24:48, Nicole Williamson 24:57.

Although it was cold on Wednesday plenty of PB’s were recorded and congratulations goes to Ethan Crisp 25 sec, Liz Simpson 16 sec, Matt Dean 3 sec, Connor Whiteley 9 sec, Alison Kittel 47 sec, Frank Ostini 3 sec, Simon Lun 14 sec.  Ethan was also the handicap winner and considering he completed the 3 km course in the time of 13:13 the handicapper is going to have fun.  Matt Dean and Connor Whitely continually amaze us with their times, 10:27 and 10:31 respectively.  President Frank was over the moon with his PB and recorded a time of 11 minutes for the 3 km course. Liz completed the course in the time of 11:42 , Molly 19:07, Alison 13:26 and Simon 12:58.  As you can see, they are all on fire.  It was great to see Joel Kitto having a walk around on his crutches.  Hopefully, it won’t be long until Joel is fully recovered and able to stride it out again.

On Friday Lauren Kerwick, Frehiwot Ward and Charlotte Simmons completed in the district cross country run which was conducted at Orange High School .  We will be able to report more on how they went next week.

A reminder for Saturday 3 September at the Hotel Canobolas for our Information Night.  The evening will commence at 5.00 p.m. and we are privileged to have 3 experts talk to us on nutrition (Jackie Jasprizza), exercising (Paul Davidson) and injury management (Dr Gareth Thomas).  The cost of the evening is $10.00 per adult and children free. What a brilliant chance for us all to enhance our learning on these three important topics for the bargain price of $10.00 and finger food included as well.  What a deal!  Everyone young and old will benefit from this evening.  Please put your name on the outside of an envelope detailing how many people will be attending, enclose the appropriate money and hand your envelope to President Frank as soon as possible.

Mudgee is only a week away so everyone’s training patterns should be in order.  On the Saturday mornings I have been out and about with Kay Davis who will be one of our runners doing the half marathon.  This will be Kay’s first half marathon and I know she will do very well as she has been extremely dedicated to training hard.

Dinner on the Saturday night at Mudgee is booked for 6.15 p.m. at The Lawson.  80 people have put their name down for the dinner.

With the cancellation of the Dubbo Zoo Run we will be having a run and BBQ at Elephant Park on 28 August 2011 . The cost is a gold coin. Meat for the BBQ has been kindly donated by Michael & Janette Borg of M & J Butchery and drinks have been donated by Mike and Karen Andrews of Pura Milk.  The BBQ  is also a fundraiser for the Cancer Council.  Two enterprising young members of the club, Kyle and Bryce Ostini,  are doing the “Hair Thing”.  Kyle is dying his hair pink and Bryce is going to have his hair shaved off courtesy of  Tammy Nonnenmacher. One in two Australians are diagnosed with cancer and unfortunately in the Ostini family Sandy is fighting her own battle with the dreaded disease.  Please get behind the boys and support this fundraiser.  You can go to the Cancer Council website and donate on line – http://nsw.cancercouncilfundraising.org.au/OstiniBros?SID=4:26529@Lang=en-/CA, or donate at the BBQ.

A number of our runners are at City 2 Surf on Sunday.  We wish them all the very best and plenty of fun.  For those us not going to Sydney a club run will be held at Elephant Park at 10.00 commencing from Woodward Street and will be the old run.
