Chapman is tested by his own planning
Article by Daryl Roweth
On a belter of a Sunday morning the dedicated band of runners who took to the CSU course were tested by the hills and the heat. Mark ‘Deek’ Chapman produced a tester of a course and was also under his own test on the first lap of the 1.6km course to make sure the front runners took the right track. Lynda Chapman was the first one home for the 1 lap run finishing in 11:06, to lead home Denise Quinlan and Letitia Vidler. Assistant time keeper John Hannan slipped around in 11:17. Lachlan Harvey was the second male just behind John. In the 2 lap / 3.2km run, in a tight battle, Iain McLean (12:44) got a few seconds on Mitchell Essex with Jackson Boucher not too far away in third. Sue Dean (14:43) also secured the win over the consistent Ursula Wilson with Josephine (Joel) Kitto and Alison Spurway the next to cross the timing mats. Jack Daintith (21:12) secured the 3 lap victory ahead of Mark Chapman and John Connolly finishing on well for third. John West picked up the overall win with a solid 35:40 for his 3 laps. Amber Rich was again outstanding with a very strong time of 21:44. Paras Meates and Pam Fullgrabe were the placegetters over this 4.8km distance. As the morning warmed the numbers that continued onto the extra laps dropped. Amanda Gregor 39:26 and Renai McArdle (42:06) had the 4 lap / 6.4km run to themselves, while braving the 5 lap / 8km testing run that saw Anthony Daintith (39:54) outlasting Daryl Roweth, Ian Spurway and a determined Basil Baldwin.
Wednesday night at Elephant Park saw another huge number breaking out Personal Bests with over 85 runners on the track. Those runners getting PB’s were Alicia Ross 24s, Emily Nobbs 22s, Josephine Kitto 57s, Jo-Ann Braithwaite 1s, Norma Bradley 18s, Martin Lendi 28s, Nick Lendi 28s, Don Layard 25s, Molly Cameron 7s, Kerrie Layard 11s, Danny Burton 7s, Beatrix Smith 6m20s, Isabel Garces 16s, and Keagan Wilson who improved by almost 3 minutes. Overall handicap winner was Jason Hamling with a solid 15:02 while fastest 3 laps were recorded by Brad Simmons (10:480 and for the girls Alicia Ross (13:18).
This afternoon will see the club celebrate the year of running with a Christmas Party and Awards night at Nashdale Hall where a few runners will be recognised with Awards for Runner of the Year, Clubman and Most Consistent (number of runs) to name a few. The event kicks off around 3pm and is expected to finish around 8pm.
This Sunday the run is at Elephant Park where the Club is putting out the challenge to try to go for an hour. Whether it be a walk or jog or a combination of both, with a few drink stops for sure I am sure you can do it. If it is too much that’s ok too, you can stop when you want.
