Basil back in run recipe

 In CWD Articles, News

Last Sunday 58 enthusiastic competitors turned out on a cool morning at the punishing Mount Canobolas Pinnacle course. There was the choice of two distances, 3.3km or 7 km. It was great to see the return of a runners club regular, Basil Baldwin who has recovered well from a recent accident.  We also had another new member, Ian Brunton who managed a fantastic first run coming in fourth in the 7km run.  A fantastic effort from Ian and we look forward to seeing him on a regular basis. Father/daughter competitors David and Lily Craig both managed great finishes even though David has been suffering a recent hamstring injury.  Sunday’s overall winner was another recent new comer returning to the club Gareth Thomas who completed the 3.3k distance in 19:33. Congratulations Gareth.

Results: 3.3km Female- Elizabeth Simpson 15:34, Lily Craig, Emily Pell. Male- Connor Bright 16:58, David Craig, Gareth Thomas. 7km: Female- Ella Lamrock 41:09 and Jane Fairgrieve. Male- Brad Simmons 31:18, Jack Daintith, Anthony Daintith.

There was quite a large turnout of runners on a warm Wednesday afternoon at Elephant Park.  Olivia Goodlock was the handicap winner with a great time of 16:48.  Excellent PB’s this week from Mark Chapman 11:05, Connor Whiteley 4 seconds (10:13), John Connolly 9 seconds and the ever improving Jamie Corcoran 13 seconds (14:52).  Ben Hutton smoked around the course in a time of 9:22.  It was great to see so many families participating and enjoying the afternoon.

A large number of runners stayed behind to participate in the free Stretch Class put on by PhyzX again this week.  Thanks to Rachael for her wonderful demonstrations again. Hopefully our runners will be much better prepared for the upcoming Running Festival, and it is on again next week.

It is only two weeks away so have you entered the Orange Colour City Running Festival.  Now is the time for all Orange runners to enter an event and support ODEEP which is the Festival Charity for 2013.  Go to www.orange colourcityrunningfestival.com.au for details or call into Dept. of Sport and Rec and see Helen.  There is an event for every one of all levels and abilities.  Pete’s Car Wash 2km Junior Dash, The Hotel Canobolas 5k individual run or walk, 5k John Davis Motors Business Challenge, 5k Waratah Early Learning Centre School Challenge, Fitness Perfection 10k, The Athlete’s Foot Half Marathon and the John Parsons Hotel Brokers Marathon.  Give it a go it will surprise you what you can achieve. There is also a Festival Dinner (2 courses) with Guest speakers on the Saturday night at Hotel Canobolas at 6.30pm – 8.30pm. All are welcome to attend. $22 per person (under school aged children are free).  Book online or bring your money in a marked envelope and give it to Karen Neal.

Liz Gregory and Coral Britt are on their last legs of the prize collection for the festival– please see them this week as they need a few donations.

A reminder to all Runners Club members that whilst we all thoroughly enjoy our runs, when in a public park we must give way to the other users especially the young. Please keep to the left on Wednesdays at Elephant Park and be aware of others.

Sunday’s run will be at Gosling Creek. The distances will be 4.6km and 9.6km. Come and enjoy this picturesque location.
