It is happening
It is all happening. The Orange Colour City Running Festival will celebrate a feast of activities this weekend. You can still enter in the 5km, 10km, half and Marathon this afternoon at the Leisure Centre, Bloomfield between 1.00pm and 5.00pm. Yesterday our festival ambassador visited a number of schools, and was seen helping out a Little A’s. Today the Pete’s Car Wash 2km Junior Dash will be held at Gosling Creek at 4.00pm (2km entries have closed) where Happy the Dragon from St George will make every effort to help the kids get around the track. A carb loading will be the ODEEP Festival Dinner tonight at the Hotel Canobolas where guests will hear several speakers including “The Running Man” Stuart Mann all the way from Johannesburg.
Sunday at 6.30am our John Parson’s Hotel Brokers Inaugural Marathon will get underway. At 8.00am the Athlete’s Foot Half Marathon will get underway. The Fitness Perfection 10km will take the start line at 8.30am, and in a huge field the Hotel Canobolas 5km, John Davis Motors Business Challenge and Waratah Early Learning Centre School Challenge will start racing at 8.50am.
With the new courses certified every runner will set their own PB. We have some fantastic runners in all distances. The Australian champion and representative Brendan Davies should come home in the marathon in around 2 hours 30 minutes with a number of internationals thrown in the mix. While in the 5km should see them fly with Australian representative Dave Matthews and our own Mitch Williamson breaking the 15 minutes.
The OCCRF committee are very grateful to the Orange community and business for their support – it seems as though everybody is eager for its success. Orange City Council, the management of Bloomfield Campus and the Orange ExServices Club are going out of their way to assist with preparations for the event. A special thank you to our 100+ volunteers from Orange Runners Club, ODEEP, Spring Terrace Public School, Spring Hill Public School, Spring Hill Uniting Church and the Rural Fire Service. Good luck to everyone taking the start line. Details are @ www.orangecolourcityrunningfestival.com.au
