Rich reward for Amber in Gosling Creek run
The new course at Gosling Creek proved to be challenging in more ways than one for everyone. The undulating track was not so smooth, a number of puddles had to be jumped over or in and the bitter wind as you headed west quickly cut a few of the runners to the shorter track. Eighty one runners finished their run with Amber Rich (10:13) being the first female home in the 2km and newcomer Alex Vardanega (11:28) the first male across the line. In the 5km Iain McLean ran in a quick time of 20:18 and Rhianna Fitzpatrick clocked 24:07 to finish first in their respective genders. Two runners opted for a 7.5km alternative Russell Tym 41:46 and Stewart Vidler 48:15 – well done guys. The 10km was a quality field with Meg Reeves flying home in 42:58, followed by Estelle Dean in 45:07, with Pete Mueller crossing the line first for the males in 46:47 and Lawson Hamling 47:34. It was great to see young Darcy Hamling Sunday’s winner, Darcy ran the 5km in a time if 24:34, this is a fantastic time for someone so young.
Prior to the race in a moment of distress Kaye Davis expressed her concern at the number of turns and loops Mike Cooper had described in the run. But all was good not a runner got lost.
From across the seas in China Daryl Roweth competed in the Shanghai Daning Leevy 10km, run home 9th overall with a time of 41 mins. Daryl stated “Thank god I wasn’t in the lead I would have never understood the direction written on the road in Chinese and traffic control is not even thought about during a race, you just combat the cars and bikes too”.
A special mention for Jessica Richards and Kim Dale (together with 8 other Orange athletes) will also take on the Ironman Australia Port Macquarie. – qualifier for Kona. Good luck to you all, respect your training – honour the commitment – cherish the results it is such an achievement.

With the weather a little kinder Wednesday Elephant Park run saw 110 take the startline. Mark Chapman decided to make short work of it with an 11:58 for 3km, while Sue Dean was seen pushing the limits and stop the clock at 11:30. The PB’s were on the increase with the warmer temperature with Brooke Martin improved hers by 52 secs, Molly Dean 23 secs, Sue Dean 6 secs, Sabrina Manickam 16 secs, Man Ha Mackay 5 secs, Cooper Bennett down a creditable 1 mins 30 secs, Donna Read 15 secs, William McLean 24 secs, Liam Maidment 14 secs, Darcy Hamling 11 secs, Wendy Dibble 22 secs Damian Harbrow 5 secs, Harry Dean 9 secs, and Chris Brown a huge 1 min 35 secs. This Sunday will see many of our members race in the Bathurst Half and 10km. The track is reasonable, not a lot of incline and for the half loops around twice. It has been known that elephants can be seen out the back roads of this course, so beware. Good luck to all who are competing. For those of you still in Orange the ORC run is scheduled for Kinross Forest starting at 9.00am. Have a great weekend everyone and run hard.
