CWD 29th August 2020
Kinisha Roweth reports:
On Saturday, a tough decision was made by President Coops to cancel Sunday runners due to the weather and I believe we are very thankful for that call as we could stay home and admire the snow from inside without getting sick.
At Elephant Park on Wednesday night 54 starters took to the track completing a lap or 3, on the beautiful warm afternoon.
At the top end of the Male runners we had Jack Daintith 9:57, Ricky Bangert 10:03 and Hadden Bennett 11:08 doing speedy runs in the warmth. Bringing it home for the females, Kinisha Roweth 12:53, Lily Craig 12:59 and Alicia Anlezark 13:01. Three lucky individuals got pb’s today, Jack Daintith and Alicia Anlezark knocked off 2 seconds while Trevor Jones sliced off 1 second.
Another reminder to please see Glenys or one of the committee members at your next run if you think you are one of the owners of an achievement medal.
This Sundays run was changed to Jack Brabham but due to soccer it has been moved back to the Botanic Gardens and we will run it in the opposite direction (clockwise). You can do 1 to 6 laps with each lap being 1.6km.
Members are still being encouraged to essentially “arrive, run and go home”, minimising the social aspect. You can begin your run between 8:30 and 9am. We are still recommending for members to wear a mask before and after completing their run for prevention.
There will be a suspension of race briefs/announcements/presentations at the moment – this will be done via email and Facebook. Thank you to everyone who has attended a run maintaining the social distancing rules and arriving, running and then heading off.
We have a team doing ‘The Long Run’ fundraising for prostate cancer next month. There are 16,700 new cases of prostate cancer diagnosed and 3,152 die from it every year in Australia. Please consider joining the run or sponsoring – head to https://www.thelongrun.org.au/about-us for more information. Our team’s page can be found at https://www.thelongrun.org.au/fundraisers/orangerunnersclub
After this weekend if you haven’t paid your membership fees, your result will not come up on the timing system or results, so please make sure you are registered before you come to a run.
We still haven’t filled the Secretary position on the committee, so we are advertising the position for casual filling for two weeks. If you are interested, please get in contact with a committee member.
