Last Sunday, Orange Runners Club was honoured to oversee the timing and lap counting at the 2017 Orange Relay for Life, held at Waratah Sports Club. The club fielded a 28-strong team for the event, who between them accumulated 1218 laps running and/or walking around Waratah Sportsground 400m athletics track, the most of any team. Notable contributions included Andrew McArdle (152 laps), Leanne Corcoran (112 laps), Graham Fahy (106 laps), Mitch Essex (78 laps), Renai McArdle (76 laps), Michael Sharp (66 laps) and Richard Eggleston who ran his 53 laps as a continuous half marathon. Many thanks to Graham Fahy, Renai McArdle and Michael Sharp who oversaw timing operations and manned the Orange Runners Club throughout the 17-18 hour event. Other notable team contributions included Yacers 1 (983 laps) OCTC (770 laps) Orange High School (396 laps) and Central West Soul Sisters (346 laps). Overall, the Orange Runners Club timing system officially logged a total of 5678 laps, covering at least 2271km, between 76 timed entries. Congratulations to all who took part in this wonderful local event.

Wednesday afternoon saw 56 participants take part in the Wednesday afternoon 2.9k handicap event at Elephant Park in much cooler conditions. Hello Autumn! Rikky Bangert (10:43), Jack Daintith (11:45) and Fred Bangert (12:06) were the fastest men, whilst the fastest ladies were Eliza Owens (12:46), Madeline Owens (12:59), and Amelia Hogben (13:22). PBs were recorded by Sophie Hogben (35s) and Milla Jurd (24s). Eliza Owens was declared the winner. Well done to all!

This weekend sees many club members take part in the annual Australian Running Festival, comprising of 5k, 10k, 21k and 42k events in central Canberra, taking in the splendid Autumnal vistas on offer. Locally, the club is having its regular Sunday run at CSU Orange, where members have the choice of 1 to 5 laps of a scenic and hilly 1.6km course. 9am start.
