Last Sunday 72 Club members took on the challenge of Kinross Lane and the climb that can’t be avoided no matter what distance you choose to do. Over the 2km distance Amber Rich was so quick that she was finished before I started running, in time of 9:01. She was closely followed by sisters Sophie and Pip Martin. Of the guys the Penrose brothers secured the first 3 places, with Craig 12:31 outpacing Brian and Gary.

In the 4.8k keeping the family trend going Anthony Daintith ran 22:42 to be just slightly quicker than son Hugh while Blake Gleeson powered into third spot. Blake’s mum Kelly was the fastest female over 4.8km in 26:46 with Tanya Connolly and Jess Quinn respectively filling the placings.

John Connolly showed that he is more than a sprinter as he powered through the 9km distance in the fastest time of 50:46 while Kim Anlezark and young Flynn Thornton were hot on John’s heals. Belinda McCauley ran 60:39 to outrun Kim Jarvis and Marie Reagan in a competitive female field that saw 5 minutes separate the top five finishers.

The big talking point was the new 11.5km distance, which, was a very tough run, but popular amongst those who tackled it. With 24 out of the 72 runners testing themselves over the distance, Sam Harma was the standout finishing in an amazing 52:14, but not to be outdone Leanne Corcoran ran 57:37 to finish with second placed Iain McLean and fastest female. Ian Spurway was third male finished, while Carissa Hickey and Alison Spurway took second and third placings for the girls.

The overall handicap winner was the trail running star, John Betts, who ran the 11.5km distance in a time of 76:31.

On a cool Wednesday night, before 86 runners and walkers did their laps around Elephant Park one of our young runners, Cameron McLean, was presented with a medal for his 50th club run.

When the running started, it was more of our slightly older young stars, that lead the way as they pushed the pace and 6 Personal Bests were recorded with Fred Bangert 5s, Elliot Bangert 16s, Lachlan Ross 40s, Jai Anlezark 23s, Tom Griffiths 37s and Kelly Jurd 4s all very impressive.

Fastest runners on the night were:

Male – Mitch Williamson 9:57, Ricky Bangert 10:00 and Lachlan Ross 10:05.

Female – Leanne Corcoran 11:31, Carissa Hickey 11:39 and Alicia Ross 12:05.
